What makes a good Computing student at All Saints?
A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.
About Computing
At All Saints Catholic Primary School, we deliver a high-quality inclusive computing education that challenges children and ensure that children have the digital literacy skills they need to further their education and life skills and eventually into employment.
Aims of Computing
To enable our pupils to be confident and resilient learners they will be able to apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms, and data representation. Alongside this, they will be competent at analysing patterns in computational terms through having repeated practical experience of writing computer programmes. To develop their ideas and ability to analyse and solve problems the children will also be able to evaluate and apply both familiar and new/unfamiliar technologies with confidence and with enthusiasm.
Curriculum
Computing is delivered through our themed curriculum lessons, children study a wide range of engaging topics which are linked to global themes. Our themes link to the work of the British Council and enable children to learn skills and then apply them.
Children’s lessons cover the three areas of Computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy.
Computer Science: Pupils learn how technology is used to manipulate devices.
Children will use hand held equipment, visual block programming and text-based programming languages to write programs.
Information Technology: Pupils access a wide range of technologies to become confident with a variety of devices and OSs. The school offers use of iPads, Chromebooks and Windows laptops
Digital Literacy: Pupils will use technology to create, evaluate and communicate information. Pupils will use a variety of devices and share their work via Tapestry in the Early Years and Seesaw for the rest of their time at All Saints. This creates a learning journey for each child and also provides a triangulation between, child, family and school.
