Journey in Love – Relationship, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
At All Saints, we understand that children are growing up in a rapidly changing and complex world. For this reason, we believe that RSHE (Relationships, Sex, and Health Education) should encompass more than just the biological aspects of sex and personal care. Our goal is to prepare students for the wider world by helping them make informed decisions, providing them with the tools to stay safe and healthy, and supporting them in understanding and managing their emotions. Ultimately, we hope to guide our students in forming healthy relationships within the values and principles of the Catholic Faith, while helping them navigate their personal and social lives in a meaningful way.
Our mission is to support the spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, moral, and social growth of every child. We deliver the Relationships and Health Education curriculum in a thorough and balanced manner, as outlined by the Department for Education. By following the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s guidance and using the ‘Journey in Love’ 2020 resource, we aim to promote the development of the whole child and provide a non-statutory relationships and sex education curriculum across the school, from Nursery to Year 6.
The teaching of RSHE is woven through out PSHE curriculum. It also is founded on our ethos and the Catholic life that we thrive to promote across our school that love is paramount and respect for others is integral to human development. Our mission statement aligns with the vision of the RSHE curriculum and hopes to instil and secure the Gospel values of truth and respect which helps them understand that they are all children of God and made in His vison.
As expected, not all aspects of personal development are fully covered by the end of Year 6. The content is designed to be age-appropriate and delivered with sensitivity, considering the children’s level of maturity when teaching the lessons.
Children are naturally curious, and many may have questions related to their lessons. Opportunities to address these questions are included within the lessons, and these discussions are approached with care and understanding.
If you have any further questions or need clarification regarding this part of the curriculum, please feel free to contact Mrs. Dunn, Miss Jasper or Mrs. Maguire.
