What makes a good RE student at All Saints Catholic Primary School
A desire and enthusiasm for exploring and discovering their own faith as well as different beliefs and ways of living. Developing their understanding of themselves and their personal relationship with God. Having an understanding of how religion can give purpose to different groups of people in society and that we live in a diverse world in which there are many beliefs. Someone who recognises that we value every unique individual as we all possess many qualities and special gifts. Being curious to ask big questions about the world and show awe and wonder about the world. Children who learn about God’s light and love and explore how they can serve and look after their home, school, parish, local and global community.
About Religious Education
Religious Education makes an important contribution to the All Saints Curriculum and underpins everything we do at All Saints. Our school’s vision is to develop pupil’s knowledge and understanding of religion, religious beliefs, practises, language and traditions and their influence on individuals, communities, societies and cultures. Our curriculum enables pupils to consider and respond to a range of important questions related to their own spiritual development, the development of values and attitudes and fundamental questions concerning the meaning and purpose of life.
We follow the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education Program (endorsed by Liverpool Archdiocese) which promotes children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares all pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of the present and the future.
Come and See sets out each topic through the headings of Explore, Reveal and Respond. These take four weeks to complete and are broken down as follows:
Explore (ONE week)
The topic is introduced in this first week and the children’s life experience is explored, the question(s) it raises are wondered at, shared, investigated and their significance reflected upon.
Reveal (TWO weeks)
This is the heart of the programme where knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith is revealed through the Word, in Scripture, Tradition, doctrine, prayers, rites and Christian living.
Respond (ONE week)
In this week, the learning is assimilated, celebrated and responded to in daily life. Reflection and celebration is shared in the class Prayer and Liturgy books.
As well as teaching RE lessons we promote and link our Gospel Values and the Catholic Social Teachings which is reflected in everything we do and the ethos of the school.
