Hello and welcome to 2M’s blog! We hope it gives you an insight into the children’s learning this year. We look forward to working with you to make sure your child has a happy and productive year and achieves their full potential!
Please take a look at our newsletters and Learning Logs to find out what’s going on each term.
Reading – Children are encouraged to read at home every night in order to become fluent, confident readers. As well as listening to your child read, ask lots of questions to ensure they understand the text.Thank you for your continued support with this.
Spellings – given out every Monday to practise at home each night. The children also have a copy in school which they practise each morning! The weekly spelling test is on Friday.
Maths – There are lots of things to practise at home which will help your child in school:
– Chant and recall 2, 5 and 10 times tables
– counting forwards and backwards to 100
– telling time
– using money
We’ve been very busy in maths the last couple of weeks! We have been multiplying and dividing. Take a look at our pictures…
We had so much fun launching our topic on Friday! We dressed in red , white and blue to match the UK flag and the Australian flags. We made passports so we could travel all the way to Australia and made our own flags. We looked at globes and maps to see if we could find the two places. We can’t wait to find out so much more!
2M have been busy doing lots more maths this week. We have been subtracting 2 digit numbers. We started with equipment and now we can do it with pictures, on number lines and even in our heads!
Wow! What an assembly. We impressed Mrs Macleod and Miss Gibson so much with our amazing reading and singing. We spoke very clearly and sang very loudly. Here we are singing our final song, thanking God.
We have been finding out lots of facts about the Great Fire of London and we were very lucky as we had some special visitors arrive in Year 2 on Tuesday… firefighters! They knew lots about the Great Fire too. They taught us how the fire spread quickly because they were close together and made from wood. There wasn’t a fire service in 1666 either so everybody had to put out the fire with buckets of water! Our special visitors told us all about how they put fires out today and how lucky we are to have important people to look after us. Some of us even got to sit in the fire engine!
We are already loving our new topic ‘The Great Fire of London.’ This week our classroom transformed into Pudding Lane Bakery where the fire started. We were expert bakers and measured and mixed our ingredients to make delicious fork biscuits.
We love maths in Year 2! We’ve been using 3 numbers to make number families this week. We can make 2 addition and 2 subtraction number sentences.
We have loved reading the Traction Man story this half term. We needed to describe Traction Man’s adventures in the murky waters of the sink so we used our senses. We put our hands in some sticky beans, bendy pasty, bubbly water and came up with some amazing adjectives!
We had a fantastic day launching our new topic ‘Florence Nightingale.’ Some of us came in dressed up doctors, nurses, patients and soldiers. Our classroom transformed into a hospital and we had lots of patients to look after! Have a look at some of our photos….
